Mary Siobhan parsons

Interdisciplinary Artist

Lately, I have chosen to work with compositions that reflect moments in which I was struck by the beauty or emotion of, moments of loneliness and contemplation, pain, joy, renewal and rebirth. Some of these moments are memories deeply encoded through their repetition, emotional impact, or assigned importance. Others are ephemeral moments otherwise forgotten, and some are vague accounts of revelation and divergence, turning points in my life. My sculptures give abstract gesture to what I find beautiful and true. Crafted with great attention to detail over several weeks, they are embedded with personal stories of symbolism. Their commonality and duality echo my contrary inner monologue. My art is an attempt to express my perception of the world and communicate my story. The art making process is therapeutic for me, which can make it bittersweet at times but also enlightening and joyful. My work is automatically personal, but any honest attempt to convey a spectrum of pure emotion is bound to touch on universal themes of the human experience.

Mary Siobhan Parsons was born and raised in Rockford Illinois, the seventh of eight children. She has known her path was art since she was a young girl. Appreciating ephemeral beauty and subtle boldness, she strives to tell a story with every piece. She brings careful craftsmanship and great passion into her work. While she values the satisfaction of pouring herself into polished pieces, her sketchbooks are where she enjoys art as play and where her love of art becomes all the more evident. Working with children and seniors for several years, she discovered a call to share the joy she finds in the art making process. After graduating from NIU in May 2024, she plans on attending graduate school to earn her master's degree in art therapy. As a certified art therapist, she hopes to help others find their voice, reconnect with themselves, process trauma, heal, and grow through individualized care utilizing traditional psychotherapy with arts integration.
