Blakely Anthony

Starting at the age of 9 I began my journey as a new artist. My interest in art blossomed from series that I enjoyed as a child - some of these including the How to Train Your Dragon movie series, and the Warrior Cats book series. The theme of animals and surrealism, something commonplace in my art as a child, carries into my art today. Some of my favorite topics involve creating commentary on animal abuse and environmentalism, while focusing on realistic styles.

My artwork is based around the general theme of surrealism – more specifically, “otherworldly” surrealism. I love to foster a sense of reality, but not quite our reality. Escapism has been my primary objective in my art since I was young. Fostering a “beautiful” aesthetic has been seen repeatedly throughout my work, even if in small doses. In the artworks with less creative flexibility – such as still life studies, I find ways to incorporate aspects of these elements in any way that I can.

My artwork also has a focus on concept and aesthetics. Art was always an escape for me, coming from my background, as such I found myself creating ethereal, “perfect” worlds in my head and making them come to life. I always found it very hard to convey my emotions and what I was thinking, consequently my artwork tends to gravitate toward conceptual emotions and feelings
