Gracen I. Harmon

Graphic Design & Marketing

“ There is a fine line between what we consider to be digital and analogue art. That line often entirely separates them and causes opposing perspectives from their audience. These views being: “one is created with technology, and the other is made with human hands. So only one of them is ‘real’ art.” But what if I told you that they each start in the same exact place? They both begin as an idea, then a sketch, then a process, then an execution, and finally a product. The product being a beautiful work of art.

Through my work as a graphic and fine artist, I hope to help my audience realize that digital and analogue art can exist harmoniously with each other. There is beauty within both types of art, especially when they come together. It just takes an open eye and mind to see it in its entirety.”

Gracen I. Harmon is a young, aspiring designer based in her hometown of Morrison, IL.  Transferring from Sauk Valley Community College in 2022, she came to Northern Illinois University to expand her creative knowledge and join NIU’s reputable Visual Communication program. Throughout her education, Gracen discovered her grid-like style and deep passion for design through the help of her professors, peers, and the many projects she faced.

Gracen often finds her inspiration from the past. Through her love of retro designs, typography, and images, many of her works depict a vintage aesthetic whilst incorporating modern day designing techniques. She explains, “The phrase ‘history repeats itself’ is often used infamously. But, the way I see it, without history, we wouldn’t be where we are today.”
