Artist statement

I enjoy the process of searching deeper for meanings, and I try and encourage the viewer to do the same with my art through the use of emotions and nature-based content. As art is subjective to the viewer, I welcome and and all emotions or feelings that my work evokes, because that brings new perspective to me as a creator. I reference from my own photography and incorporate my own twist, which there in turn makes my art more personal and deeper. I show my feelings through whimsical scenes that bring me back to happier memories in my past, and hopeful thoughts for the future. Being able to create natural and yet fantastical, worldly scenes from image in my mind and camera are what push me to keep working and learning.

Bio

Raewyn Sumeraj was born in 1995, and grew up in Naperville, IL. She has been a creator her whole life. Starting from writing and illustrating her own stories at the age of six, she developed a greater love for the arts during her junior year of high school. After attaining her associate in science degree from College of DuPage, she transferred to Northern Illinois University to study the arts.

After practicing and learning through several different types of mediums, such as graphite, charcoal, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, and watercolor, she eventually found that she enjoys digital art the most since it is so versatile. She loves to lose herself in in her artwork for hours on end, and she believes there’s no greater joy than realizing that there never seems to be a limit to how long she can sit with one piece and work on it. The only thing better than that, is being able to make people happy through what she creates.
