Animation

Artist Statement

I am fascinated with animation and movement, especially character and animal animation. Even as a little girl I’d find myself rewinding particular cartoon scenes over and over again, obsessing over the mechanics of the animation. I was fascinated with the animation of a scene and the audio that went with it. And that is something I still do to this day.

My idea for Mediev’lol follows a Knight in a “medieval North American” world where there are dinosaur-dragons, aliens, witchcraft and other wackiness. This same Knight is guilted into watching a dragon over the upcoming winter despite his reputation as a dragon slayer. The goal of this short animation is mostly establishing characters and setting, with the hope of developing this world further in future projects. Much is left up to mystery and interpretation as the viewer is thrown into this world without prior explanation. I would like the viewer to enjoy this animation and to be immersed in this world.

Claudia Steinolfson is a studying animator born in Illinois. Claudia graduated from Oswego East High School and is a senior in Northern Illinois University working to earn a Bachelor’s degree. With it, she hopes to get a taste of the working world while continuing passion projects on Youtube.

Claudia was fascinated with movement from a very young age unbeknownst to her until later in life. From watching cartoon scenes for their animation and sound on repeat, to preferring plush toys over action figures for their greater range of motion, she has been fascinated with the little details in life. She hopes to use her animations to attribute a sense of wonder in the viewer, as she believes this is a sense very close to God, whom she considers the answer to these little clues. The answer to motion.
